ENSURE THE SAFETY OF YOUR LOVED ONES. CONTROL ACCESS TO
THE POOL. ALWAYS MONITOR ACTIVITIES CLOSELY.
Most home pool drowning deaths are due to the fact that
there was no fence, or that the existing fence was
sub-standard, defective, or simply left open and
unguarded.
Make sure that your pool is properly fenced-in. A safe
fence or gate should be impossible to climb or open, and
should be child-proof in every way. Gates should have an
automatic closing (spring) mechanism as well as an
automatic locking system (latch). Of all children
drowning deaths, over 50% are due to a short moment of
distraction or to the total absence of parental or adult
supervision.
When children are in the pool, NEVER take your eyes off
of them. Should you have to leave for a short moment,
get another adult to supervise, or make the children
exit the pool.
